Alice Glenn named LRAEF Executive Director

As you can imagine, Alice Glenn is excited to be named the new Executive Director of the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation. Glenn joined the LRAEF April 23 with previous experience as the director of the office of alumni and development for Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Previous political campaign fundraising experience has also shaped her career.

"The LRAEF addresses key needs of our state, such as better training for our workforce, providing opportunities for higher education to our high school graduates and encouraging economic development through entrepreneurship and management training,” said Glenn.  “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a foundation with such relevance and unlimited potential for growth and impact."

During her first two weeks, she will travel to the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland with Hammond and Rayne High Schools who will compete on behalf of Louisiana.

“I look forward to seeing our ProStart students in action,” she said. “Also to see how the students and teachers interact and how they feel about LRAEF training, tools and resources, and the mentors we seek out for their programs will be invaluable.”

The following week she will attend National Restaurant Association Education Foundation (NRAEF) meetings surrounding the annual NRA Show to further her foundation of the ProStart program and fundraising initiatives by the NRAEF for growing programs nationwide.

“To have so much on the job training during my first few weeks with the LRAEF will no doubt provide me with a stronger understanding of my role and purpose,” she added.

The LRAEF two key components are the Louisiana ProStart program and the LRAEF Scholarship Program. ProStart is a two year, dynamic culinary arts and restaurant management curriculum offered in nearly 50 high schools designed to attract young people to the restaurant industry. The LRAEF Scholarship Program, now in its second year has awarded more than $40,000 to ProStart graduates and to those working in the industry wishing to further their education in the field.

When asked what she was most looking forward to, she replied, “ I look forward to working with the LRA chapters. They are backbone of the LRAEF’s funding and being a good steward of their philanthropic efforts is a priority.”

Glenn brings years of experience in fundraising, strategic planning and community development to her position as Executive Director and has a solid track record of raising millions for the organizations she’s served.  

“We are pleased to have someone with Alice’s experience join our LRAEF team,” said LRA President/CEO Stan Harris. “Our industry is one of the leading participants in area philanthropic activities and we are confident that with Alice’s leadership we will achieve new levels of success.”

Glenn was born in Baton Rouge and grew up in Houma, Louisiana. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science from Millsaps College, she earned a master’s degree from Tulane University. She is involved with many civic and philanthropic organizations such as the Women's Leadership Council, the New Orleans Opera Association, the LASPCA and Junior League of New Orleans.
